Made for Mermaids New Alexandria Swimsuit with Flounce Crossover

The Made for Mermaids’ Alexandria swimsuit from Made for Mermaids just released, and it’s already been my most-worn suit this summer (the joys of testing 🙌). I live in Michigan with beaches all around, so suits that are practical, durable, and fashionable are a must in my book 😉

About the Suit

The women’s one-piece suit comes with a faux cross/wrap front or a tie front, and both have optional flounce. There are also several strap styles including halter, straight, and cross-back.

My Version

I chose to sew the faux front version with flounce and cross-back straps. I’m small busted (not even an A for store-bought), and I find that flounce is very flattering on a number of garments for small-busted women. I also love the creative element it brings. It was very windy the day I took photos, so it’s a bit hard to see–the flounce crosses over on both sides.
Also, the fit (when graded per the size chart) is wonderful. I found it flattering on all sizes who tested this pattern!

The Fabric

I adore a nice combination 💗 For my Alexandria, I chose navy swim fabric that I bought from Zenith & Quasar last summer paired with coral striped flounce from Raspberry Creek Fabrics (turned to use as vertical stripes).

I also used the vertical stripes for my straps for an added pop of color.

The pattern can be found HERE and is on sale during release. I found the overall pattern straightforward and rewarding–a definite worthwhile investment into the pattern and quality fabric to create a beautiful, flattering suit (for each individual body) that could never be store-bought.
